Brief History

The 2nd Regiment, Arkansas Infantry was organized at Springfield, Missouri, and Fort Smith, Arkansas, October, 1863, to March, 1864. It moved to Clarksville December 31 and had duty there and at Fort Smith until August. The regiment mustered out August 8, 1865.[1]

For more information on the history of this unit, see:

Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin

Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.

Men from Northwest Arkansas and Southwest Missouri enlisted in this regiment.*

*Adjutant General. Official Army Register, Report of the Adjutant General, 1864.

The Civil War Soldiers and Sailors database lists 1,396 men on its roster for this unit. Roster.
