"Military Index" is the name of a record collection that is part of the FamilySearch DOS version. (Other collections included the Ancestral File and the International Genealogical Index.)

The Military Index contains almost 100,000 U.S. servicemen and women who died in the Korean and Vietnam wars. It:

  • Provides birth and death dates.
  • Gives the person's residence.
  • Lists the place of death.
  • Lists rank and service number.
  • For Vietnam only: Provides religious affiliation, marital status, race, and the Vietnam War Memorial plaque number.

Alternate Availability

Access to FamilySearch DOS version has decreased over time, making access to Military Index difficult or impossible. The information in Military Index is available from alternate sources.
