Brief History
The 63rd Regiment, New York Infantry was rganized at New York City August 7 to November 4, 1861. It was assigned at various times to various places and commands. The regiment mustered out June 30, 1865.[1]

Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin
Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.
The original companies of the regiment were recruited in New York City.
Company A - principally recruited at Suffolk County, Massachusetts
Company C - principally recruited at (Brooklyn), Kings County, New York
Company E - principally recruited atSuffolk County, Massachusetts
Company K - principally recruited at Albany County, New York
The other new companies were mostly recruited in New York City.
