== Positioning and size of this template ==
It has been suggested that this template be made smaller and added to the end of articles, so as to lessen it's visual impact on the overall content of a page (see [[FamilySearch Wiki:Contributors Meeting 12 July 2012#Translation request template]]). I think there is merit in this suggestion, but wanted to open a discussion with others before going ahead with the change.
Add your thoughts. What do you think about reducing the overall size and the suggestion that the template be repositioned to the end of an article?

::I think both suggestions are a good idea. You should go ahead with the changes. In the future however, I think all translation requests should be made on the language wiki where the translated page is to go. I think this is fine for now to get greater visibility, since there are a limited number of contributors (especially on the other language wikis), but you can see how this template can quickly become an annoyance considering there are already 10 other language wikis. This template could be used in the future for requests to translate another language page into English only. [[User:Lotje2|Lotje2]] 21:33, 13 July 2012 (UTC)

Adding a link to the page on the other language wiki[edit source]

Steve, here is an example of how the template could look if we added the ability to point to a page on another wiki. The example below was created by adding "{{#if:{{{2|}}}|at {{ill-2|{{{1|}}}|{{{2}}}}}|}}." to the display text. Lotje2 06:01, 3 July 2012 (UTC)

I think this suggestion is a very good idea. You should go ahead and make this change. --Steve (talk| contribs) 12:56, 3 July 2012 (UTC)

Fixing spacing[edit source]

I noticed that the final full stop was separated from the sentence if only the first parameter was used. To fix this I moved the new code right up against the previous text, but then found that when the second parameter was used, that the new text within the parameter starting with at also started against the previous text. I didn't want to use a non-breaking space ( ) and found the best alternative is two thin spaces ( ). --Steve (talk| contribs) 16:26, 4 July 2012 (UTC)

Positioning and size of this template[edit source]

It has been suggested that this template be made smaller and added to the end of articles, so as to lessen it's visual impact on the overall content of a page (see FamilySearch Wiki:Contributors Meeting 12 July 2012). I think there is merit in this suggestion, but wanted to open a discussion with others before going ahead with the change.

Add your thoughts. What do you think about reducing the overall size and the suggestion that the template be repositioned to the end of an article?

Examples of what my thinking is:

or for a particular language and page title

I think what you have suggested is excellent. It will allow for "maintenance" kind of attention to those articles that are needed in other language wikis without detracting from the purpose of the articles. I hope others will chime in on this so that we make sure we understand the intended process and how the template helps. I think both suggestions are a good idea. Lotje2 21:33, 13 July 2012 (UTC)
I have made the change and updated the documentation with a new section about placement. --Steve (talk| contribs) 14:13, 20 July 2012 (UTC)
