Brief History[edit | edit source]

The 30th Regiment, Ohio Infantry mustered in August 28, 1861 at Camp Chase, Columbus, Ohio. They were mustered out August 13, 1865 at Little Rock, Arkansas. [1]

For more information on the history of 30th Ohio Infantry see the following:

Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin[edit | edit source]

Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.

Company A - Many men from Knox County[2] - Organized at Portsmouth, Scioto County[3] - see Roster

Company B - Organized at Cadiz, Harrison County[3] - see Roster

Company C - Organized at Downington, Athens County[3] - see Roster

Company D - Many men from Perry County. Organized at New Lexington, Perry County[4]; see Roster

Company E - Organized at Jerome, Union County[5]; see Roster, and another Roster

Company F - Many men from Jefferson County[6] - Organized at Washington, Guernsey County[7] - see Roster

Company G - Organized at Steubenille, Jefferson County[8] - see Roster

Company H - Many men from Franklin County.[9] - Organized at Circleville, Pickaway County[8] - see Roster

Company I - Organized at New Philadelphia, Tuscarawas County[8] - see Roster

Company K - Organized at Caldwell, Noble County[10] - see Roster

The above Company rosters are from Official Roster of the Soldiers of the State of Ohio in the War of the Rebellion, 1861-1866, vol. III, 21st-36th Regiments-Infantry, (Cincinnati, Ohio Valley Pub., 1886), pages 396-425.

The Civil War Soldiers and Sailors database lists 1,691 men on its roster for this unit. Roster.
