Brief History[edit | edit source]
The 43rd Regiment, Ohio Infantry mustered in September 28, 1861, to February 1, 1862 at Mount Vernon, Ohio. They were mustered out July 13, 1865 at Louisville, Kentucky.[1]
For more information on the history of this unit, see:
- Larry Stevens' Ohio in the Civil War, 43rd Ohio Infantry
- The Civil War Archive section, 43rd Regiment Infantry, (accessed 30 August 2012).
Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin[edit | edit source]
Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.
County listing from Steve Ward's Buckeyes All, Part II Revised, is given on Larry Stevens' Ohio in the Civil War web page, 43rd Ohio Infantry.
Company A - Many men from Belmont County[2] - see Company Roster
Company B - Many men from Morrow County[3] - see Company Roster
Company C - Many men from Jefferson County[4] with some men from Knox County[5] - see Company Roster
