Portuguese Colonization (1507-1650)[edit | edit source]
The Portuguese arrived in Oman in 1507 looking for an outpost to protect their sea lanes. They built up and fortified the city of Muskat. By 1624, Portugal had been forced from Oman with the exception of Muskat, which they lost by 1650.[1]
