Rusyn
Rusyn, (also known in English as Ruthene, sometimes Ruthenian), is a Slavic language spoken by the Rusyns of Eastern Europe. It is estimated that about 34,000 Slovakians are native Ruthene speakers. [1]

Slovakia Research Tips
Census Records Census refers to population enumeration. For statistical purposes the government periodically took a census of the population. Slovakia Census Records
Civil Registration. Civil Registration refers to records of births, marriages, and deaths maintained by civil authorities. Slovakia Civil Registration
Slovakia Church Records
Determine the religion of an ancestor Until the 1900s, vital records were kept by church parishes or Jewish congregations. The records of different religions were kept separately. If you are not sure of your ancestor's religion, start by searching Roman-Catholic records. Catholicism was the dominant religion in the former Austro-Hungarian Empire. Not every village in Slovakia had its own parish. Often, several smaller villages belonged to one parish. Use gazetteer to determine the location of the parish or synagogue where records were kept.
