* Each member of your group will have their own computer, and the classroom includes an instructor computer with overhead projection.
* If needed, one of our missionaries will help get you started with the equipment.
* This is a great opportunity to provide instruction on any topic of Family History to  your group using the Center's state-of-the art equipment.
* Classrooms are available Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday at 7pm, Saturday at 9am and 11am, and Sunday at 2pm and 4pm.  <font color="red">NOTE: Reservations must be made at least 3 days prior to the date you need the classroom.<br><br>

Layton Utah FamilySearch Center Classes


Classes

The Layton FamilySearch Center offers many basic and advanced classes to help you with your family history work. No reservations are required to attend any of our classes. You can view the schedule of classes - by date or by class title - at the links below. You can also scroll down to the class categories to see more information about each of the classes. We also have the options for you to access the BYU Family History Virtual Classes and Webinars library or to reserve one of our classrooms for your group with your own instructor.


Beginning Classes

Introduction to FamilySearch

  • FamilySearch is a free genealogy program that allows access to “billions of ancestor profiles, photographs, and historical records."
  • You will learn about:
    • Landing Page resources
    • How to sign up for a free account
    • How to access and add to the Family Tree
    • Navigation strategies and tips to use throughout the program

  • Every person added to the Family Tree has a unique PID (Personal Identification) number and their own Person Page. Learn how to get to a Person Page from multiple places in Family Tree. From the Person Page:
    • Check your relationship with the selected person
    • View an Overview (Discovery page) about the person
    • Check details - including vital statistics and family relationships
    • Review and add Sources and Memories
    • View a timeline with accompanying map
    • Access FamilySearch partner sites for researching more information
