Brief History

This regiment was organized at St. Louis, Mo., September 10, 1861. It was attached to:

• 5th Brigade, Army of Southwest Missouri, Dept. of Missouri, November, 1861, to February, 1862.
• 1st Brigade, 2nd Division, Army of Southwest Missouri, to May, 1862.
• 2nd Brigade, 5th Division, Army of Mississippi, to September, 1862.
• 35th Brigade, 11th Division, Army of Ohio, to October, 1862.
• 35th Brigade, 11th Division, 4th Corps, Army of the Ohio, to November, 1862.
• 2nd Brigade, 3rd Division, Right Wing 14th Army Corps, Army of the Cumberland, to January, 1863.
• 2nd Brigade, 3rd Division, 20th Army Corps, to October, 1863.
• 1st Brigade, 2nd Division, 4th Army Corps, to October, 1864.

Companies in this regiment were organized between 24 June 1861 and 9 September 1861, mustered out on 10 September 1861, and discharged between 26 September 1864 and 29 September 1864. The Colonels in charge were Bernard Laibold and Frederick Schaefer.
