Family history societies often publish helpful journals, transcripts, compiled genealogies and host helpful websites. They may have ongoing projects to transcribe records and create indexes. Most societies publish queries in their journals and maintain lists of members’ research interests that may be helpful to you. You may want to join one of these societies, reap the benefits of their expertise and resources, or support its efforts.

Based in Castlebar, the society was reactivated in 1986 after a lapse of many years. Each year since then, the society has organised a series of very successful historical, archaeological, and geographical lectures, which are held during the winter months.

North Mayo Heritage Centre is dedicated to preserving and promoting the rich heritage of the region. The Family History Research Unit works with clients world wide who are keen to trace their roots from Mayo. The centre has compiled a complete database of all the major genealogical resources relating to North Mayo. The database contains over a million records. Records for the remaining parishes of Co. Mayo are held at the South Mayo FamilySearch Centre in Ballinrobe.
