The Yakima Agency is a currently operating agency. Its supervising office in the Bureau of Indian Affairs is the Portland Area Office.
Indian Tribes Associated With This Agency
Yakama (Yakima) and 13 other tribes and bands who have become known as the Yakama Nation. The other tribes and bands are the Palouse, Pisquose, Wenatchapam, Klinquit, Oche Chotes, Kow way saye ee, Sk'in-pah, Kah-miltpah, Klickitat, Wish ham , See ap Cat, Li ay was, and Shyiks. These fourteen tribes and bands are those whose representatives signed the 1855 treaty.
History
The Yakima Agency was established in 1859 for the Yakima Indians living on their reservation in central Washington and has continued operating as an agency continuously.[1][2]

The majority of records of individuals were those created by the agencies. Some records may be available to tribal members through the tribal headquarters.They were (and are) the local office of the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and were charged with maintaining records of the activities of those under their responsibility. Among these records are:
