Ross and Cromarty Societies: Difference between revisions

:The Society was established in September 1981 to promote the study of genealogy, family history, and related subjects in the Highlands of Scotland.  Our area covers the old counties of Sutherland, Ross, Inverness, and Nairn (and we retain interest in, and information about, Caithness and northern parishes of Argyll and Perth, though they now have their own local family history groups).  

:The main objectives of the North of Scotland Archaeological Society are to further the study of archaeology in the North of Scotland and to promote that interest to a wider audience.  Our membership extends across Ross-shire, Sutherland, Caithness, Aberdeenshire, Inverness-shire, and Argyll. We all share an avid enthusiasm for Highland archaeology.

:The Historical Society's mission is to advance the education of the public by research, collation, recording, publication by any means, dissemination, and promotion of the history of Applecross and the surrounding area.

:Based in the historic town of Cromarty in the Scottish Highlands, we aim to promote knowledge of the history of Cromarty and the surrounding area, further the preservation of our local heritage, encourage the participation of the community in discovering and  preserving its past, and support the Cromarty Courthouse Museum.

:The Club is interested in a great variety of things - natural history, history,  architecture, geology, and archaeology.

:The CEN Mission Statement is to preserve and promote the history, language, culture, and heritage of the Ness to Ballantrushal area of the Isle of Lewis for the benefit of the local community, its visitors, and future generations.  It was the first historical society in the Western Isles and covers the area of North Lewis from the Butt of Lewis to Ballantrushal. It also holds information about the offshore islands of North Rona and Sulaisgeir.

:Over the years we, the local history society, have amassed a wealth of heritage research.  Now, we can share this archive knowledge of family, emigration, and Gaelic that was shaped by lives spent crofting, fishing, and of service in two Worlds Wars and the Merchant Navy.

:Ross and Cromarty Heritage aims to produce a multi-media account of contemporary and historical life in the thirty-six Communities of Ross and Cromarty. The material collected takes the form of short profiles, 'snapshots' of the Folk, Place, Environment, Work, Societies, Recreations, and Heritage of each Community,

:The objective of the Society is to advance the education of the public about the history, heritage, and culture of Stornoway and the Island of Lewis.
