:The museum opened its doors on August 23, 1993, in order to publicize the history of the municipality and the paleontological and archaeological pieces found in the region. It exhibits old hunting, farming, carpentry and tannery tools, as well as everyday objects, photographs, paintings and handicrafts. It has a library, four permanent rooms and one for temporary exhibitions mainly related to popular culture.

:The purpose of this museum is to collect, preserve and disseminate the representative elements of the Wixarika culture. The material selected to make up the exhibition collections is a compilation of objects used by the Wixaritari in the different activities of daily life, such as their traditions and rituals.
