Whole boxes of old and new photos can become JPEG files in minutes.  Digital images of color and black.-and-white photos and documents can be shared via computers, tablets and cell phones.  This scanner accommodates photos and documents up to 8 1/2" x 14".  The PS80 scans up to 25 photos per minute.
If photos have been in an album for a long time, they may be glued in or covered with plastic protectors. In either case, damage can occur when trying to remove them. A flatbed scanner provides an option to scan these fragile files at no risk of harm and will keep album pages intact. <br>
The PS80 and the Flat Bed scanners uses the same computer.  When scheduling the PS80 you will automatically be schedule for one of the Flat Bed scanners.

The Batch Scanner and Flatbed Scanner are two options that can accommodate photos and documents up to 14" x 17".
This is a Sony Hi 8 camcoder that uses a Hi8 cassette. This camera uses Powerdirector the same software that we use on our VHS to DVD recorder.
The Sony Handycam CCD-TRV66 video camera has a 2.5-inch LCD color screen with SwivelScreen technology. This analog camcorder provides 440 lines of resolution and includes image stabilization. The Sony Handycam camcorder is lightweight at only 1.9 lbs, thus eliminating the need to worry about tired arms while recording longer videos. For added convenience, this analog camcorder also functions as a still-photo camera and offers digital zoom up to 360x. Additional features of this Sony Handycam camcorder include NightShot, infrared recording, multiple language selections, and LaserLink connection.  Default recording formats for this camcorder include Hi8 and Video8. The Sony Handycam CCD-TRV66 video camera also has same playback settings and a VHS machine. An optical sensor resolution of 330,000 pixels on this Sony Handycam camcorder promotes clear image quality with both still photos and video recordings

This conversion equipment will capture video and store it to your personal USB thumb drive. In order to have a successful session, here are some things to consider:
*For full-size VHS tapes, rewind the tapes or set at starting point before coming.
*The captured video file will be in .mpg or .mp4 format and will be transferred to your USB thumb drive. A two-hour video will need about 16GB of USB storage in .mpg and .mp4 formats.
*The video tape can be split into smaller subject-based segments during the conversion, resulting in small videos that can be uploaded and easily shared.  If needed, a DVD can be created during the conversion.

The Center has real-time conversion equipment for full-size VHS video tapes.  The equipment will capture the video and store it on a 16GB thumb drive. We encourage you to use our expert technology missionaries to assist you in your video conversion process.  In order to have a successful session, here are some things to know:
:*For full size VHS tapes, rewind the tapes or set at start point before coming.
:*Expect about one hour of video content during a session with half hour of setup/wrap up.  Plan to complete all efforts within the scheduled time period.
:*Do not bring tapes with commerical content or copyrighted material, only family-related videos.
:*The captured video file will be in .mpg or .mp4 formats and will be transferred to the patron's personal USB thumb drive to take home.  A two-hour video will need about 16GB of USB storage for the .mpg or .mp4 format.  An MP4 file is a compressed video file, that can be put on a thumb drive.
:*The video tape can be split into smaller topic-based segments during the conversion such as for a birthday party, vacation, graduation, etc. The result is small subject-based videos that can be uploaded to social media, loaded on a phone, or easily shared with family and friends. The digital video files will provide the best option to play and share video memories.  If needed a DV can be created during the conversion.
:*Please bring blank DVD discs (DVD+R or DVD-R types).  Recommended brands are Verbatim DVR+R or DVD-R 8x, Maxwell DVD+R 4x/8x/16x, Sony DVD+R 4x/8x/16x, TDK DVD+R 4x/8x/16x.
:*You'll need a DVD for every two hours of VHS video.

Scanning Area 10-26-23.jpg

The Ogden FamilySearch Center Offers Many Scanning Opportunities

We are excited to help you preserve your family documents and pictures. The following tips will help make your experience successful. Make an appointment prior to coming. We appreciate you being on time.

  • Appointment times are for 1½ hours.
  • A missionary will greet you in the scanning area and assist you in getting started.
  • Make your reservation by clicking on the "Green-Reserve Button " button below for the desired piece of equipment."
  • FamilySearch has designated scanning and digitizing opportunities at our Center in order to preserve personal family histories. While using the scanning equipment, we ask that only family-owned documents, photos, videos, and movies be scanned, digitized or converted. Please do not scan, digitize or copy any material with commercial content or copyrighted material. To review the FamilySearch copyright guidelines Click here link

How Do I Preserve Large Family Books?

The Ogden FamilySearch Center has a CZUR Book Scanner that will allow you to copy large family history books. This is a great way to make digital copies of non-copyrighted books to distribute to your family members without the hassle and cost of making and binding larger volumes. However, to make your family history book available to a wider audience, we want to introduce you to another option:

  • The Salt Lake City FamilySearch Library will digitally preserve your large books for posterity. These materials become available in FamilySearch's Digital Library.
  • Once accepted and digitized, others will be able to search for a family name or place and find your ancestors' histories and other writings.

Click on this link for guidelines to donating a book.

Preparing for your visit

  • Please make an appointment for the appropriate scanning/conversion equipment you wish to use.
  • We encourage you to be on time. If you are 15 minutes late, it's possible you will have to reschedule another appointment.
  • If are are unable to come at your scheduled time, please call to cancel so someone else may use the service.
  • Below are the descriptions, capabilities and suggested preparation for the scanning equipment we offer.
  • You must bring your own DVD's and/or USB thumb drives. A USB should have 16 GB minimum to copy and save your photos, documents, VHS tapes. In order to reduce the chance of data loss, we recommend a high-quality, name-brand drive, formatted FAT32 (or exFAT if you are digitizing long videos).
