Saint Lucia Civil Registration: Difference between revisions

Native peoples lived on the island before Europeans came. The island switch back and forth several times between the French and British. The British gained final control in 1814. Enslaved people from Africa were brought to work on the sugar plantations by the 1700s. Slavery was fully abolished in 1838. Though an independent country, it is part of the British Commonwealth.^[2]
