Parking is available for free underneath the Library. To access the parking area, enter the parking garage to the south of the Library and follow directions to the underground parking area. Map Description of Collections The Harold Weary Genealogy and Local History collection of the Mount Prospect Public Library is one of the Library’s special collections.  It was first developed as a separate collection in the 1970s by Harold Weary and other members of the Northwest Suburban Council of Genealogists It has continued to grow through the work of several dedicated librarians and volunteers and the support of the Library. This collection which is found in the center of the second floor of the library offers many resources for researching family history. Most of the collection deals with Mount Prospect, the Northwest suburbs, the city of Chicago, and Illinois. There are also resources for other states and countries and many genealogy how-to books. Many of these books can be checked out while the rest are for use in the Library only. Also available are genealogy periodicals as well as microform collections of local newspapers and census records. The Library has subscriptions to the genealogical online resources Ancestry Library Edition, Fold 3, Heritage Quest, and MyHeritage. These resources along with Newspaper Archive and the Historical Chicago Tribune are accessible at any public Internet computer in the Library. The Library has an extensive local history file which includes newspaper clippings, brochures, pamphlets and other ephemera which document the history of Mount Prospect businesses, organizations and residents. Items in the Biography folder have been indexed and may be searched online as can those in the Business folder. The Library also maintains an extensive Obituary Index of Mount Prospect residents which may also be searched online. Photographs of the people and places connected to the history of Mount Prospect and of the Library itself can be found in the collection of the Illinois Digital Archives. Services The genealogy collection is available for use during all the hours the Library is open. Research Services staff including a genealogy librarian are available to help you use the collection. Volunteers are available to assist you with research on Thursday mornings and Friday afternoons. One hour research consultations may be set up with the genealogy librarian. The library staff is available to answer questions by phone, mail or email. Genealogy presentations are offered by the Library at least two times a year.
