The Sony Handycam camcorder is lightweight at only 1.9 lbs, thus eliminating the need to worry about tired arms while recording longer videos. For added convenience, this analog camcorder also functions as a still-photo camera and offers digital zoom up to 360x. Additional features of this Sony Handycam camcorder include NightShot, infrared recording, multiple language selections, and LaserLink connection. Video Tape Conversion

The Center has real-time conversion equipment for full-size VHS video tapes. The equipment will capture the video and store it on a 16GB thumb drive. We encourage you to use our expert technology missionaries to assist you in your video conversion process. In order to have a successful session, here are some things to know:
  • For full size VHS tapes, rewind the tapes or set at start point before coming.
  • Expect about one hour of video content during a session with half hour of setup/wrap up. Plan to complete all efforts within the scheduled time period.
  • Do not bring tapes with commerical content or copyrighted material, only family-related videos.
  • The captured video file will be in .mpg or .mp4 formats and will be transferred to the patron's personal USB thumb drive to take home. A two-hour video will need about 16GB of USB storage for the .mpg or .mp4 format. An MP4 file is a compressed video file, that can be put on a thumb drive.
  • The video tape can be split into smaller topic-based segments during the conversion such as for a birthday party, vacation, graduation, etc. The result is small subject-based videos that can be uploaded to social media, loaded on a phone, or easily shared with family and friends. The digital video files will provide the best option to play and share video memories. If needed a DV can be created during the conversion.
  • Please bring blank DVD discs (DVD+R or DVD-R types). Recommended brands are Verbatim DVR+R or DVD-R 8x, Maxwell DVD+R 4x/8x/16x, Sony DVD+R 4x/8x/16x, TDK DVD+R 4x/8x/16x.
  • You'll need a DVD for every two hours of VHS video.
