1540: Francisco Vasquez de Coronado encounters the Pueblo Indians

1598: Governor Juan Onate and Franciscan missionaries

1680: Pueblo Revolt, Pueblo and Hopi fight the Spanish

1823: Mexico independence from Spain

1848: Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, New Mexico becomes a territory of the United States
