This article describes the services and resources available at a FamilySearch Center, a branch facility of the FamilySearch Library.

Welcome to the Powder Springs Georgia FamilySearch Center. This center serves the northwest region of the greater Atlanta area and is located in west Cobb county.

Mask wearing at patron discretion. Hand sanitizer available.

Please bring a USB device to save your documents or images.

Computers have been rearranged to allow for social distancing. We will sanitize surfaces before and after each appointment.

We are located near McEachern High School. Park on the south side of the building, in the section by the parking sign indicating you are visiting the FamilySearch Center.

Collections[edit | edit source]

Family Search: Temple and Family History consultants with center responsibilities are trained to help with family history searches, including the use of familysearch.org

FamilySearch Catalog:

Patrons' Microfiche Collection -- a collection of fiche ordered by our patrons, assorted titles. Contain family histories, vital records, and other types of information.

Indefinite Film Collection -- a collection of films on a variety of subjects, to include vital records, county records, court records, etc.

Book Collection: -- The Center also has several collections of family history information from Latter-day Saint families that have lived in the Georgia area in the past.

FamilySearch Center Portal This center has the FamilySearch Center Portal which gives free access in the center to premium family history software and websites that generally charge for subscriptions including:

Center Services[edit | edit source]

Patrons may bring their personal computers for note taking or entering information into personal genealogical programs. Wireless internet access is currently available. Memory sticks can also be used to download information.

Volunteer at the Center[edit | edit source]

FamilySearch Center Staff[edit | edit source]

Staff is needed for customer service during the hours the Center is open. Volunteers should be comfortable with computer use and enjoy working with people. A knowledge of basic family history research principles is helpful, but training will be provided. A minimum of 2 shifts per month in the Center is required and more is cheerfully allowed. Email the temple and family history consultant - center at GA_PowderSprings@familyhistorymail.org if interested.

Indexing[edit | edit source]

Family Search is making records available on-line as quickly as possible. One of the keys to making these records useful is the Indexing program. Without an index, researchers have to browse through the images, sometimes one at a time, to find a specific record. Indexing can be done at home and is an excellent activity for FamilySearch Center Staff when the Center is not busy. To find out more about indexing and take a test drive go to Volunteer Indexing

Basic Computer Literacy Tutor[edit | edit source]

With the rapid increase in research data becoming available on-line, long-time family history researchers are facing the need to learn new skills. A patient and understanding tutor is needed to help small groups or individuals learn basic computer skills. Contact the FamilySearch Center by telephone or email if you are interested in teaching or helping to develop training in this topic.
