Gries is a commune in the canton of Brumath in the department of Bas-Rhin, France.

Before 1736 Gries (spelled Grieß in the earliest church registers, apparently until the mid-18th century), in Amt Brumath, was in the territory of Hanau-Lichtenberg. When that line was extinguished in 1736 it was transferred to Hesse Darmstadt (Landgrave). The rights of all nobility over Gries were abolished effective 11 Aug 1789 by France. This was confirmed by the Peace of Lunéville on 9 February 1801. From 1871 to 1919 Gries was in the German Reich (Gries, Straßburg, Unter=Elsaß, Deutsches Reich).
