Description[edit | edit source]

The county was named for George Mifflin Dallas, the 11th Vice President of the United States under U.S. President James K. Polk. The county is located in the northeast area of the state.[1]

Record Loss[edit | edit source]

  • 1880--Courthouse interior destroyed by fire. Courthouse was rebuilt adding a third story to the building.[4]
  • 1890--Courthouse destroyed by fire on 7 February 1890. All records were saved except those of the 44th District Court. [5]
