Brief History[edit | edit source]

"Organized within Federal lines in West Tennessee in 1863; broken up and men distributed to other organizationa May, 1864. This regiment is not to be confused with the 18th (usually called the 19th) Tennessee Cavalry Regiment, which was also commanded by Colonel John F. Newsom, although some of the officers, and many of the men also served in this later organization." ^[1]

"Units of the Confederate States Army" by Joseph H. Crute, Jr. contains no history for this unit. ^[2]

Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin[edit | edit source]

Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.
