Brief History[edit | edit source]

This Unit was organized at Keokuk February 22, 1862. They mustered out July 24, 1865.^[1]

Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin[edit | edit source]

Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.

Company A - enrolled in Clinton County &c.

Company B - enrolled in Polk County

Company C - enrolled in Mahaska County

Company D - enrolled in Wapello County

Company E - enrolled in Lee County

Company F - enrolled in Mills County and Fremont County

Company G - enrolled in Marion County and Warren County

Company H - enrolled in Pottawattamie County, Harrison County, &c.

Company I - enrolled in Lee County, Clarke County &c.

Company K - enrolled in Marion County, Wapello County and Van Buren County
