This Unit was organized at Burlington July 15, 1861. They mustered out July 30. Consolidated with 5th Iowa Cavalry August 8, 1864.[1]
Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin[edit | edit source]
Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.

Company B - enrolled in Jasper County
Company C - enrolled in Louisa County
Company D - enrolled in Marshall County
Company E - enrolled in Buchanan County
Company F - enrolled in Koekuk County
