The 16th Kentucky Cavalry was consolidated with the 12th Kentucky Cavalry, per Special Order No. 127, War Department March 25th, 1864.  
Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.

Brief History[edit | edit source]

The 16th Regiment, Kentucky Cavalry was organized at Paducah, Kentucky, September, 1863. The regiment was near Rheatown, Duvall's Ford, Watauga River, September 30. It was consolidated with the 12th Kentucky Cavalry October 15, 1864.[1]

Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin[edit | edit source]

Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.
