Return to Utah Wiki Project Main Page

Task Description[edit | edit source]

Add links to Find A Grave and other online cemetery records for each of the 29 counties in Utah.

Steps[edit | edit source]

Step 1: Prepare the county Wiki page under the "Cemeteries" heading[edit | edit source]

If there already something there for this county, make space for what you will be adding by simply moving that information further down from the "Cemeteries heading". We don't want to change it or remove it at this time.

Step 2: Copy and paste introductory paragraphs[edit | edit source]

A) Copy (using WikiText) the following 2 paragraphs [HOW? Highlight the paragraphs and press Ctrl + C keys]

Cemetery records often identify birth, death, relationship, and military information, as well as religious affiliation.

Online resources for cemetery records of WikiProject Utah Tasks Cemeteries include:

B) Paste (using WikiText) immediately under the Cemeteries heading of the county page. [HOW? Put your cursor under the "Cemeteries" heading and press Ctrl + V keys.

Step 3: Add the Find A Grave information[edit | edit source]

A) Copy (using WikiText) the following paragraph -- including the asterisk (*)

  • Find A Grave gives a list of cemeteries in WikiProject Utah Tasks Cemeteries and links to the information for the individuals buried there. Usually gives birth and death dates often with a picture of the tombstone. May give obituaries, names of family members and links to their information in Find A Grave. Find A Grave can also be searched by the name of a person or family to find where a person is buried.

Important note to the Utah Wiki team: the PAGENAME wording which you will see in WikiText automatically adds the name of the county page into the paragraph. Therefore, it has inserted the name of this task page (FamilySearch Wiki:WikiProject Utah Tasks Cemeteries) as you can see. When you paste it into the county page, it will be correct.

B) Paste it (using WikiText) to the county page and Save page.

C) Get the Find A Grave link to the correct county

  1. Click the "list of cemeteries in ... County" link. This takes you to the Utah Find A Grave.
  2. Select the county you are working on and click Search
  3. Copy the address (URL) for that search

D) Fix the Find A Grave link on the county Wiki page

  1. On the county page, click to edit the Cemeteries section (but NOT in WikiText this time!)
  2. Highlight the "list of cemeteries in ... County" link
  3. Click the Link icon, paste the address (URL) and click OK

E) Save page

Step 4: Add the link to the FHLC[edit | edit source]

A) Copy the following paragraph (in WikiText)

  • The Family History Library Catalog lists some records of cemeteries in WikiProject Utah Tasks Cemeteries. (In the Catalog, click on the link to a title to see details.) Some of the books – and others – may be on Google Books, on WorldCat, or available at public libraries.

B) Paste the paragraph (in WikiText) on the County page under the Find A Grave entry,

C) In WikiText, edit the FHL template to the county name (such as Utah, Beaver).

D) Save page

Step 3:
