The 6th Regiment, Kentucky Cavalry was organized in Camp Irvine, Jefferson County, Kentucky, under Major Reuben Munday. Munday's 1st Battalion Cavalry was assigned as Companies A, B,C, D, and E in the 6th regiment. They mustered in on December 23rd, 1861. Companies F-M were added in August 1862.  As the only organized cavalry in the division, their duties were arduous and of great importance. Non-Veterans mustered out at Edgefield July 14, 1865. The 6th Regiment, Kentucky Cavalry was organized in Central Kentucky July to October, 1862. Non-Veterans mustered out at Edgefield July 14, 1865. The regiment mustered out September 6, 1865.[1]

Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.
