2nd Regiment, Wisconsin Infantry
Brief History[edit | edit source]
The 2nd Regiment, Wisconsin Infantry was organized at Madison, Wisconsin, and was mustered in June 11, 1861. It mustered out at Madison, Wisconsin, July 2, 1864. The Battalion was consolidated with the 6th Wisconsin Infantry as Companies "G" and "H" on November 30, 1864.The 2nd Independent Battery, Wisconsin Light Artillery was organized at LaCrosse and was mustered in at Racine, Wisconsin, October 10, 1861.It was at Point Lookout, Maryland, January 20,1865. It was mustered out July 10, 1865. [1]

Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.
