The 47th Regiment, New York Infantry was organized at New York and mustered in September 14, 1861. The regiment mustered out August 30, 1865.[1]

Companies in this Battalion with the Counties of Origin[edit | edit source]

Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.

The regiment was recruited principally in New York City and Kings County (Brooklyn).  A few men came from Dutchess County.
