French Colonization (1859-1954)[edit | edit source]
The French eroded Vietnam sovereignty in 1859 and took control. By 1867, the southern third of the country became a French colony. The entire country had come under French rule by 1884. The French colonialists were defeated in 1954 and the Geneva Conference created the three countries of Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. [1]
