Brief History[edit | edit source]

The 99th Regiment, New York Infantry was organized at New York City under authority of War Department as Naval Brigade, to be provided with Gunboats to cruise along Atlantic coast, May 28, 1861. The regiment mustered out at Salisbury, N. C., July 15, 1865.[1]

Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin[edit | edit source]

Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived, though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. If you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.

Company A - recruited principally at (Red Banks), Monmouth County, New Jersey

Company B - recruited principally at (Red Banks), Monmouth County, New Jersey

Company C - recruited principally at (Red Banks), Monmouth County, New Jersey

Company D - recruited principally at (Red Banks), Monmouth County, New Jersey and included men from Massachusetts

Company E - recruited principally at (Red Banks), Monmouth County, New Jersey and included men from Massachusetts

Company F - was formed principally of men from Massachusetts

Company G - was formed principally of men from Massachusetts

Company H - was formed principally of men from Massachusetts

Company I - was formed principally of men from Massachusetts
