Background[edit | edit source]

Newspapers contain local events, featuring birth, marriage, death, and memoriam notices, as well as local and national news. Newspapers are kept at repositories, libraries, or online, such as The British Newspaper Archive ($). The Cornish Studies Library at the Cornwall Centre in Redruth is a vital repository of information with many collections, including microfilms of all the main Cornish newspapers up to the present day, many dating back to the mid 18th century.

Transcriptions of the West Briton and Cornwall Advertiser are available online. These contain news articles, court reports, and reports of births, marriages, and deaths. This is an ongoing project with new additions nearly daily. Many years are covered between 1836-1887.
