Brief History[edit | edit source]
The 62nd Regiment, Ohio Infantry mustered in September 17 to December 24, 1861 at Zanesville, McConnellsville and Somerton, Ohio. They were mustered out December 7, 1865.[1]
Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin[edit | edit source]
Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.
Companies by County:
Company A - Many men from Muskingum County.
Company B - Many men from Morgan County.
Company C - Many men from Perry County.
Company D - Many men from Perry County.
Company E - Many men from Belmont County.
Company F - Many men from Muskingum County.
Company G - Many men from Guernsey and Morgan Counties.
Company H - Many men from Perry County.
Company I - Many men from Morgan and Noble Counties.
Company K - Many men from Monroe and Perry Counties.
