The 39th Regiment, Ohio Infantry mustered in July 31 to August 13, 1861 at Camp Colerain and Camp Dennison, Ohio. They were mustered out July 9, 1865 at Louisville, Kentucky. [1]
Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin[edit | edit source]
Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.
Companies by County:
Company A - Many men from Hamilton County and Portsmouth, Scioto County.
Company B - Also known as "Koenig's German Rifles". Many men from Marietta, Washington County.
Company C - Many men from Athens County.
Company D - Many men from Clermont & Hamilton Counties.
Company E - Many men from Clermont & Hamilton Counties.
Company F - Many men from Hamilton County and "Koenig's German Rifles" Marietta, Washington County.
