Brief History[edit | edit source]

The 22nd Regiment, Ohio Infantry mustered in November 5, 1861 at Benton Barracks, Missouri. They were mustered out November 18, 1864 at Camp Dennison, Ohio. ^[1]

Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin[edit | edit source]

Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.

Company B - Many men from Scioto County.
Company C - Many men from Hamilton County.
Company D - Many men from Granville, Licking County.
Company E - Many men from Preble County.
Company F - Many men from Union County, Illinois.
Company G - Many men from Highland & Ross Counties.
Company H - Many men from Butler County.
Company I - Many men from St. Louis, Missouri.
Company K - Many men from Montgomery County.
