Brief History[edit | edit source]
This unit was organized at Indianapolis, Indiana, September 18, 1861, after the 10th Regiment, Indiana Infantry (3 months) mustered out. The veterans and recruits transferred to 58th Indiana Infantry September 8, 1864. The old members mustered out September 19, 1864.[1]

Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin[edit | edit source]
Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived, though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. If you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.
