Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin[edit | edit source]

Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.

-The 8th Regiment, West Virginia Infantry organized in the Kanawha Valley in the fall of 1861 with volunteers from [[Boone County, West Virginia|Boone]], [[Clay County, West Virginia|Clay]], [[Fayette County, West Virginia|Fayette]], [[Jackson County, West Virginia|Jackson]], [[Kanawha County, West Virginia|Kanawha]], [[Raleigh County, West Virginia|Raleigh]], [[Wyoming County, West Virginia|Wyoming]], [[Putnam County, West Virginia|Putnam]], [[Mason County, West Virginia|Mason]], [[Logan County, West Virginia|Logan]] and [[Braxton County, West Virginia|Braxton]] Counties.
