Brief History[edit | edit source]
The 16th Regiment, Missouri Cavalry was organized at Springfield, Missouri, November 1, 1863, from the 6th Regiment Enrolled Militia. It was attached to the District of Southwest Missouri, Department Missouri, to April, 1865, and to the District of North Missouri, Department Missouri, to July, 1865.[1]
Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin[edit | edit source]
Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles,companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.
