7th Regiment, Ohio Cavalry
Brief History[edit | edit source]
The 7th Regiment, Ohio Cavalry mustered in October, 1862 at Ripley, Ohio. They were mustered out July 4, 1865 at Nashville, Tennessee. [1]
Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin[edit | edit source]
Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.
Companies by County:
Company A - Many men from Hamilton County.
Company B - Many men from Hamilton County.
Company C - Many men from Hamilton County.
Company D - Also known as "Stoneman's Bodyguard". Many men from Clermont County.
Company E - Many men from Ripley, Brown County.
Company F - Many men from Bentonville, Adams County.
Company G - Also known as "Hartsuff's Escort" and "Scofield's Escort". Many men from Portsmouth and Scioto County.
Company H - Also known as "Newton Guards". Many men from Marietta, Washington County.
Company I - Many men from Athens County.
Company K - Many men from Meigs County.
Company L - Many men from Gallia County.
Company M - Many men from Gallia County.
