Brief History[edit | edit source]

The 9th Regiment, Ohio Cavalry mustered in October 3, 1862 at Zanesville, Ohio. They were mustered out August 2, 1865. ^[1]

Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin[edit | edit source]

Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.

Companies by County:

Company A - Many men from Licking and Muskingum Counties.
Company B - Many men from Belmont, Noble and Washington Counties.

Company D - Many men from Morgan, Washington and Wayne Counties.
Company E - Many men from Erie, Franklin, Lucas and Williams Counties.
Company F - Many men from Guernsey, Henry and Wyandot Counties.
Company G - Also known as "Hestler's Unterrified Crampers". Many men from Mercer and Shelby Counties.
Company H - Many men from Williams County.
Company I - Many men from Logan and Seneca Counties.
Company K - Many men from Sandusky County.
Company L - Many men from Clermont County.
Company M - Many men from Coshocton County.
