The 5th Regiment, Ohio Cavalry mustered in October 23-November 14, 1861 at Camp Dick Corwin, near Cincinnati, Ohio. They were mustered out October 30, 1865 at Sub-District of Morgantown, District of Western North Carolina, Department of North Carolina. [1]
Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin[edit | edit source]
Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.

Company A - many men from Brown and Clermont Counties.
Company B - many men from Clermont and Hamilton Counties.
Company C - many men from Clark and Greene Counties.
Company D - many men from Hamilton County.
Company E - many men from Preble County.
Company F - many men from Preble County.
Company G - many men from Hamilton County.
Company H - many men from Butler and Hamilton Counties.
Company I - many men from Butler and Hamilton Counties.
