  • Duarte is a province in the Dominican Republic.
  • Duarte is divided into 7 municipalities and further divided into 11 municipal districts.
  • According to the Oficina Nacional de Estadistica, Duarte had a population of 338,649 in 2014.
  • Duarte was created in 1896 as a district (an former jurisdictional subdivision) with the name Distrito Pacificador.
  • The Constitution of 1907 changed the jurisdiction level to province.
  • In 1925, its name was changed to Duarte.[1]
