History[edit | edit source]

Seafield was a parish in Banffshire which was likely positioned within the parishes of Cullen and Rathven. Few records exist of this parish, and it is unclear when it was dissolved, although it likely existed in 1698 to be the namesake of the Viscounty and Earldom of Seafield, and likely was disolved prior to 1794 as it does not appear in the Banffshire accounts within the First Statistical Account of Scotland. Despite having no unique parish registers or census records, a parish number was given to the parish. The name Seafield may have been used to refer to chapels of ease or nonconformist churches within Cullen and Rathven. Upon the establishement of Statutory Registers, the parish of Rathven was split into two registration districts, Rathven and Seafield.

For all records relating to the parish of Seafield, see Cullen and Rathven.
