Guide to Municipality of Araci ancestry, family history and genealogy: birth records, marriage records, death records, church records, parish registers, and civil registration.
History[edit | edit source]
Araci was founded by José Ferreira de Carvalho, in 1812, and was known as the city of Raso, before the emancipation it belonged to the city of Serrinha.
The municipality originated at the headquarters of Fazenda Raso, where a village was formed around a chapel. The farm then located in the municipality of Serrinha from where it was later dismembered, becoming a district called Nossa Senhora da Conceição do Raso.
The municipality was dismembered due to the fact that it was developing in agriculture and commerce and was able to support its expenses. This took place on December 13, 1890. In 1904, the municipality was renamed Araci, but it was extinguished in 1931 after its sustainable works declined. After the extinction, Araci was again annexed to Serrinha.
