City directories

These records are used to locate residents in large cities, to determine parish jurisdictions, and to identify occupations and residence over a period of time. They generally exist from the 1700s to the present and contain the names, addresses, occupations or places of employment of the city's residents. Directories can be found in city archives and libraries.
