Adding Links to HR Articles Part A

Purpose[edit | edit source]

Add links to Historical Records Collections inventories to any applicable Historical Records collections Wiki page.

Task List[edit | edit source]

Step One - Sign Up[edit | edit source]

  • Go to the task list and sign your name next to a Historical Records Wiki page.



  • Click on the link to open the Wiki page.



  • There are two ways to add a link to a Historical Records Collections Wiki page. Choose the one that applies to the Wiki page you just signed up for.



Part A - Individual Inventory Wiki Page[edit | edit source]

  • If the Wiki page you are working on has the word, "Inventory" in the title of the page, follow these instructions. If it does not, go to Part B.



Step One - Open the HR Collection Wiki Page[edit | edit source]

  • On the Wiki page, open the Historical Records Collection details page by going to the box at the top of the page and click on the link while holding the ctrl button. This will open the main details Wiki page for the HR collection in a new tab.

Step Two - Click on Edit Source[edit | edit source]

  • Click on Edit source at the top of the page.

Step Three - Check for Wikitext Code[edit | edit source]

  • Check the infobox to see if it has the following code already on the page.

If the code is there, go to Step Four below.

If it's not, copy the following wikitext code and add it just above RW_URL_01 1 in the infobox. It should look like the image above.

Step Three - Copy the Wikitext[edit | edit source]

  • Copy the following wikitext code:

Step Four - Find Correct Line[edit | edit source]

  • Use ctrl + F and type in the following to locate the correct line to add the link.

Step Five - Paste Wikitext[edit | edit source]

  • Paste the wikitext after the = on the Inventory line.



Step Six - Copy the Title of Wiki Article[edit | edit source]

  • Go back to the first tab to the Wiki page from the task list. Copy the title of the article.



Step Seven - Paste the Title[edit | edit source]

  • Go back to the other tab and replace the phrase TITLE OF WIKI PAGE in the wikitext you just added with the name of the page.

Step Eight - Preview the Page[edit | edit source]

  • Click Show Preview to make sure it looks good and the link works.

  • Enter in the following in the summary:
Added Inventory link - project


  • Click Save Changes.


Step Nine - Go back to the Task List[edit | edit source]

  • Go to the Task List and add the date next to your name.


  • Sign up for a new historical records collection page to work on: Task List.

Part B - Table on HR Collection Details Wiki Page[edit | edit source]

  • If the Wiki page you are working on is a Historical Records Collection details Wiki page (does not have "Inventory" in the title), you will have to locate the inventory link on this page and add it to the infobox.



Step One - Review Table of Contents[edit | edit source]

  • Review the Table of Contents on the page and find the word, Inventory.



Step Two - Confirm the Inventory Link[edit | edit source]

  • Click on the word, Inventory to take you down to that part of the page and confirm there is an Inventory listed. If there is one, continue with Step Three. if there is not, make a note and go to the next Wiki page on the task list.



Step Three - Click on Edit Source[edit | edit source]

  • At the top of the Wiki page and click on Edit source to edit the whole page.



Step Five - Find Correct Line[edit | edit source]

  • Use ctrl + F and type in the following to locate the correct line to add the link.

Step Six - Paste the Wikitext[edit | edit source]

  • Copy and paste the following wikitext after the = .

[[#Inventory|Inventory]]



Step Seven - Preview the Page[edit | edit source]

  • Click Show Preview to make sure it looks good and the link works.
