Spain Colonization (1531-1822)[edit | edit source]
In 1531, the Spanish arrived in Equador to begin colonization. On October 9, 1820, the first territory gained its independence from Spain and other costal provinces followed. Ecuador's official Independence Day is on May 24, 1822. [1]
