Historical Background[edit | edit source]
Greenland became Danish in 1814, though the people became citizens of Denmark in 1953.[2]
Beginning in 1924, civil registration of births, marriages, and deaths began to be kept on a national level also.
Individuals from Greenland were added to the Central Register of Persons in Denmark starting 1 May 1972.[3]
The most important records for Greenland genealogy are the church records.
