History of British Columbia Censuses[edit | edit source]
In 1851, Canada begin keeping censuses every 10 years. However, these censuses were often taken in different years, and it was not until 1871, after the Dominion of Canada was created, that censuses were taken regularly. [1]
British Columbia did not join Canada until 1871 so the first Canadian census to include British Columbia was in 1881.
